For his outstanding accomplishments in engineering Matt Campbell, professor of mechanical engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

“I am honored to reach the level of Fellow within the ASME,” said Campbell. “ASME has been my main professional society for the last twenty years, and I am happy to receive recognition for all the teaching and research that I have done in that time.”

Campbell joins a select group of about 3,500 Fellows out of an ASME membership totaling nearly 113,000 individuals. The Fellow grade is “truly a distinction among ASME members,” according to the organization.

Much like the field of mechanical engineering, Campbell’s work intersects a variety of fields, such as machine design, design theory, artificial intelligence, graph theory, and numerical optimization.

“Many thanks to my colleagues and students who have helped me reach this goal,” said Campbell. “I hope this will have a positive impact on the reputation of our program here at Oregon State University.”
