We are using phylogenetic approaches to better understand patterns of diversification and species boundaries in wild strawberries.  Previous studies have 1) identified Fragaria vesca subsp. bracteata as the plastid donor of the octoploid strawberries (Njuguna et al. 2012); 2) elucidated the progenitors of several allopolyploid species (Kamneva et al. 2017); and 3) documented multiple origins of the decaploid Fragaria cascadensis (Dillenberger et al. 2018).
