Today was our first team meeting with Jorian, the master’s student who is working on the hardware aspect of this project. He walked us through the entire history of the project, current status of the platform, and how we can get started on organizing ourselves around the software development tasks, really interesting stuff! We talked about G-Code and using ROS as a platform for interacting with the robotics and how we can use ROS modules to collaborate while working on different pieces of functionality.
I do think that “robotic greenhouse” is a bit of a misnomer here though .. it seems like the purpose of this is to create a “platform for research”, not automate greenhouse tasks, which is much more interesting. I’ve built numerous 3d printers and I am familiar with G-Code, but I have never looked at ROS before so I’m very excited to dig in and see how that ecosystem works.
More later when I’ve had time to digest all of the information and learn more about ROS and what specific tasks on which I will be working.
