An effective Human Resource department within an organization plays a crucial role in the success of the organization itself. I looked at three different companies that were voted in the top ten best places to work. These companies included American Express, Cisco, and Hilton, the leader in hospitality. When I started looking into what made these companies stand out, it all seemed to narrow down to one thing, an embracing management and Human Resource team. Hilton was the leader in this category with 96% of employees stating that management is approachable and easy to talk with. An approachable management team is the first step in creating a positive work environment that employees enjoy being at. As said in the lecture one of this week’s learning material “Individuals influence an organization’s culture, informal rules, how hard they work, how they treat each other, how much risk they take, and more”. People matter, and while the success of an organization can be measured differently, discounting your employees won’t make them feel welcome. Hilton emphasizes that their a team and lets everyone help make decisions that will impact their jobs. By employees having a say in daily operations the survey reported that 98% of employees are proud to say they work at Hilton. This last summer I worked for a company that would constantly send out surveys with questions about the overall direction of the company. This made me feel like I was part of a team instead of just an intern there for the summer. If I was a manager I would routinely involve my employees in decisions for the company so that the future is something they could be proud of.
