Experiences with Discrimination

When hearing that a company that I admire and would want to work for discriminates against individuals who share my characteristics it is demoralizing. My first thought would be that I wouldn’t want to work for that company. I want the company that I work for to treat everyone equally and not hold anything against religion, political views, race etc. I think that in terms of wanting to work for the company, I would wait to see what their next move would be before making a decision on whether or not I’d continue to support them or want to work for them. I think that if this is the first time the company has had trouble with discriminating against people who share a specific characteristic with me, I’d wait to see what their next move would be. I think today we are too quick to judge and “cancel” companies and individuals. One thing that used to be quite prevalent in society was forgiveness and second chances. For me, I would wait and see what their plan is to make things better. The thing I would be looking for specifically is some sort of action that would help build back their reputation. Just saying you’re going to change doesn’t give me a whole lot of confidence that there will be actual change. If this wasn’t the first time the company has been caught discriminating employees who share characteristics with me, then I would lose my respect and admiration for the company. I wouldn’t want to work for them or support the company. There are plenty of others companies that are fair and support who I am as an individual.
