When a massive chemical spill contaminated West Virginia’s Elk River in January, up to 300,000 residents were without access to potable water. Officials began lifting the ban on using tap water only a few days later, citing lowered concentrations of 4-methylcyclohexane methanol (MCHM), the licorice-smelling chemical used in the separation and cleaning of coal products. Robert Plascencia, a junior in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University

Robert Plascencia, a junior studying Electrical and Computer Engineering and minoring in Business and Entrepreneurship, recently fulfilled his high school dream of traveling the world. In order to gain cross-cultural experience, and heighten his German language skills, Plascencia studied abroad in Berlin, Germany through AHA at the Freie Universität Berlin during Summer 2013. Students in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering designed and built a mobile outreach cart for OSU Libraries and Press

A team of students in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) collaborated with the Oregon State University Libraries and Press to design a mobile library outreach cart. With features that include a power station, lockable Plexiglas doors, laminate top, and waterproof design, the presentation station allows the library and OSU Press to participate in additional outreach and engagement activities.
