GFR 2013 Car UnveiledOn Saturday, April 13, Oregon State’s Global Formula Racing (GFR) team unveiled their 2013 race car. Having three world championships under their belt, the unveiling was a highly anticipated event.

A 30-minute meet and greet preceded the unveiling, where attendees could ask questions about race car models that were on display from the three previous years. Attendees then had the opportunity to view a promotional video with highlights from the past four years with the GFR team.

The formula team made great use of social media sites such as Facebook to promote the event, getting people excited about the car unveiling and its up-and-coming competition. Attendees included friends and family of team members, interested students and staff, and some ever-important sponsors.

“It was the most professional and organized unveiling we’ve ever had for the team,” says Doug Peterman, GFR marketing manager.

On display next to the 2013 car was the traveling trophy from the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE), a coveted prize given to the team that wins the annual Michigan competition. Oregon State has been the first team to win the trophy three years in a row. The trophy will be accompanying the team on their trip to Michigan in the coming week as they defend their title as the three-time champions.

At the Michigan competition, Oregon State’s formula team will be up against more than 100 collegiate teams, all fighting to get the most points during four dynamic events – where the car is running and being driven –  and three static events, where the team will discuss the details of the cost, design, and manufacture of the car.

Considering their stellar record, it’s safe to assume the team will hold their own against the other teams. Let’s go for a fourth win!
