A Look Back at 2025
While there isn’t enough room to list everything the CCMGA volunteers accomplished this year, here are some of the highlights that made 2025 such a successful and memorable one.
January
The 2025 Master Gardener Training Classes kicked off with 17 enthusiastic students. Paul Maree, Education Program Assistant II, skillfully led the classes and got the year off to a great start.
February
We celebrated the grand opening of our new greenhouse—and what a celebration it was! The turnout was impressive, the public came out in strong support, and many Master Gardeners generously volunteered their time to host this successful event.
March
Master Gardener Volunteer Training classes officially concluded. All 17 students passed their exams!
April
Plant Clinics began at Chetco Community Public Library in Brookings, Curry Public Library in Gold Beach, and Port Orford Public Library in Port Orford—bringing gardening knowledge directly to our communities.
May
Our Annual Plant Sale was a huge success, with over $11,000 in sales and nearly 1,600 plants sold. A fantastic achievement!
June & July
Throughout the summer months, our wonderful volunteers kept busy helping at Riley Creek School Garden, Little Bear Patch Garden, Driftwood Elementary School Garden, and Pacific High School Garden, ensuring each space remained thriving and beautiful.
August
Our Annual Social Event took place at Buffington Park in Gold Beach and featured a potluck, awards presentation, and plenty of good company.
- Master Gardener of the Year: Frank Furtaw
- Growing and Belonging Award: Kim Foster
- Behind the Scenes Awards: David Denney and Steve Myers
September
The official name of our new greenhouse was voted on and approved: Curry Educational Greenhouse & Garden (CEGG).
October
CCMGA was invited to host a booth at the Gold Beach Rotary’s 75th Birthday Bash. Our theme — “Vampires Be Gone: Plant Garlic!” — was a big hit. Over 60 kids and their parents planted garlic to take home and grow.
November
The CCMGA Board voted and approved the 2026 incoming officers:
- President – Jerry Herbage
- Vice President – Martin Teague
- Co-Secretaries – Cindy Myers & Laura Lee Cundiff
- Treasurer – Brenda Blythe
- Membership – Lori Phelan
- OMGA Representative duties will be co-shared by Cindy Myers and Laura Lee Cundiff
December
We wrapped up the year with our Annual Holiday Event at Pistol River Friendship Hall. The afternoon was festive, with approximately 45 attendees enjoying delicious food, desserts, and a lively White Elephant gift exchange. We also celebrated a special milestone with a ceremony honoring 12 CCMGA Trainee graduates, who received their certificates and badges. Congratulations to all!
With sincere gratitude, thank you to all of our Master Gardener volunteers for making 2025 such a successful year. A very special thank you goes to Paul Maree, Education Program Assistant II, who truly went above and beyond to help everything run smoothly. Best wishes to everyone in 2026!
Warm regards,
Your outgoing Co-Presidents,
Laura and Martin Teague
