Week 7 Winter 2025

We’re one month away from the spring equinox, and as the frost thaws, there’s plenty to do! Check out some of these ways to get involved beyond the classroom featured in this newsletter. Also, first-year students, meet with your advisor to plan for spring classes!

Winter 2025 Academic Deadlines

Friday, February 21 @ 12:00 PM: last day to change the grading basis of a class (A-F to S/U or vice versa; review the COH S/U policy)

Friday, February 21 @ 11:55 PM: last day to withdraw from a class (no tuition refund)

Friday, March 14 @ 11:55 PM: last day to withdraw from the term

Puzzle Palooza
POV: you just finished midterms, but finals are only a couple weeks away. Make sure to take some study breaks for self-care, and one way to do this is by attending Puzzle Palooza, which is happening all day on Tuesday, February 18 in Waldo Hall! Come chill and enjoy the space, and if puzzles aren’t your thing, perhaps pie is!

Upcoming Career Fairs
Ready to network? We’ve got four (4) career fairs on the horizon! On Wednesday, February 19, check out the STEM Career & Internship Fair and the All-Industries Career & Internship Fair. Next Wednesday, February 26, stop by the Nonprofit & Community Engagement Fair as well as the Food Science & Technology Fair. Earn a Food Equity Specialist Certificate!
Affiliated with Purdue University and the US Dept. of Agriculture, the Center for Food Conservation and Waste Reduction aims to prevent and reduce hunger and food waste across communities nationally. To attain this goal, they hope to educate as many as possible through online trainings and paid, student-led research opportunities. To learn more about this certificate, hear from Dr. Brenna Ellison, the director of this program. The application deadline is Friday, February 21.

Reminder: KIN Experiential Learning Apps for Spring Due 2/28
If you’re a KIN student planning on doing KIN 409 or KIN 410 this spring for experiential learning credit, the deadline to complete and submit your application is Friday, February 28 (ideally, you’ll have secured a site by now). If you plan on doing an internship (KIN 410) this summer, you may also take KIN 307, the 1-credit pre-internship seminar, this spring if needed. All KIN students should access the main KIN experiential learning webpage for more thorough info. As a reminder, all KIN students (i.e., both General option and PTAH option) must fulfill at least three (3) experiential learning credits per degree requirements.

JEDI Hub is Open!
The Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Hub is a safe gathering space for students who wish to advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Among other services, the JEDI hub offers free printing, a lending library, and even free snacks. Take a break from studying, and enjoy this cozy new space. Check out their winter term hours!

Research Participation: Substance Use and Academic Performance Study
Looking for ways to engage with research? Interested in psychology? The Substance Use & Neurocognition (SUN) lab is seeking participants in their research study, “Substance Use and Academic Performance.” Eligible participants must be (1) between 18-25 years old; (2) an OSU student registered for Winter 2025 classes; (3) fluent in English; (4) a US citizen; (5) not currently pregnant; and (6) have used alcohol or cannabis in the past month. For more info, contact the SUN lab or the principal investigator of the studty, Dr. Anita Cservenka. You may access the research consent form.
