Dr. Matt Ito was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology for his study on statins. His study shows an increased likelihood for patients to discontinue using statins due to muscle pain. He found there is an association between increased or new muscle pain while taking statins in conjunction with medications that inhibit statin metabolism. His findings show the necessity for pharmacists and clinicians to recognize and reduce drug interactions when prescribing statins in conjunction with other medications.
