OSHP Annual Seminar 2016

Over the weekend of April 22-24, 2016, OSU College of Pharmacy alumni, students, and faculty participated in the Oregon Health Systems Pharmacists (OSHP) Annual Seminar at Sunriver Resort, Sunriver, OR. The event offered Continuing Education covering relevant information on topics such as clinical policies and
drug information.

Many OSU College of Pharmacy alumni gave presentations at the seminar. Gerry Migaki (’75), RPh spoke about Biosimilar Products: Are You Ready? and Pharmacy/Industry RelationshipsTraci Hamer (’05), PharmD, MAT presented on Cannabis: Smoldering Considerations in Chronic Pain ManagementJohn E. MacKay (’06), PharmD, BCPS-AQ Cardiology gave a presentation on Advances in Heart FailureZach McCall (’06), PharmD, MBA, BCPS, BCACP presented in the Panel Discussion The Value of TechniciansSean Sullivan (’83), PScPharm, PhD talked about What Can Be Done to Stem the Rising Cost of Pharmaceuticals?

OBOP Executive Director Marc Watt (’77), RPh and Pharmacist Consultant Fiona Karbowicz, RPh spoke about Board of Pharmacy Safety and Compliance Considerations while OBOP Pharmacist Consultant Fiona Karbowicz, RPh also spoke separately onImplementation of 2015 HB2879 – Pharmacist Prescribing of Contraceptives. OSU College of Pharmacy faculty member, Pharmacy Practice Instructor, Lorinda Anderson, PharmD, BCPS spoke on the same track as Fiona with her topic of Prescribing Hormonal Birth Control in Oregon. Another OSU College of Pharmacy faculty member, Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Craig Williams, PharmD, BCPS, FNLA presented Prevention of ASVCD: New Recommendations for Hypertension Management and the Use of Aspirin.

During the seminar, OSHP held the 2016 Silent Auction Awards Program. At the start of the program, they announced the 2016-2017 OSHP Board of Directors.

OSU College of Pharmacy Alumni, Zach McCall (’06) was named President. Daniel Rackham (’08) was named President Elect. He was also elected as OSU Faculty Co-Advisor to Student Chapter with OSU College of Pharmacy Associate Professor, Myrna Munar. OSU College of Pharmacy Pharm. & Therapeutics Clinical Coordinator, Andrew Gibler was named Treasurer. He was also named EAC – Industrial Relations Co-Liason with Gerry Migaki (’75). Alumnus Yvonne Mette (’00)was elected Southern Chapter Chair Elect. Alums Sarah Deines (’08)Arrash Vahidi (’14), and Carl Heisel (’75) were elected as Organizational Affairs Council Co-Chairs. Current P2 Student, YoungYoon Ham (’18) was named the OSU Student Chapter President.
OSHP also recognized certain individuals with awards.
