Paige Clark, RPh., Honored with Bowl of Hygeia Award for Community Service

The Oregon State Pharmacy Association (OSPA) has selected Paige Clark, RPh., as the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia Award.  This award is sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations.  It was presented to Clark during the OSPA Annual Convention September 16-18.

Clark graduated from Oregon State University College of Pharmacy in 1985.  Clark is the Director of Alumni Relations and Professional Development at Oregon State University College of Pharmacy where she creates opportunities for students and alumni, directs alumni outreach activities, and manages the enrichment, ceremonial and continuing education events for the college.  In Clark’s most recent position as the Pharmacist Consultant for the Oregon Board of Pharmacy she assisted the Board in legislative endeavors, wrote policy, managed focus groups, crafted statute and rule language and provided research for the Board.

Clark was named the National “Good Government” Pharmacist of the Year in 2000 by the American Pharmacist Association, was Oregon’s Pharmacist of the Year in 1997-8, was the Value Rite National Awardee in 1990 and received the APhA National Merit Award from the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management in 1989.

The Bowl of Hygeia Award is a celebrated honor that is given annually to one pharmacist from each state who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service and civic engagement.  The plaque features the cast image of the Bowl of Hygeia, which is a bowl symbolizing medicine with a snake to represent healing.  This image encapsulates the philosophy of pharmacy – healing through medicine – and is recognized internationally as the symbol for the pharmacy profession.

Throughout Clark’s professional career, her commitment to community service has never wavered.  In addition to the support of the state of Oregon’s pharmacy associations, she has served her community in numerous capacities ranging from past PTA president and school volunteer to a ballet board member and the chairman of various community groups. Currently Clark is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Eugene with projects dedicated to the support of foster children in Lane County.

The Oregon State College of Pharmacy is pleased to celebrate Clark’s remarkable commitment to community service and her honored place as the recipient of OSPA’s 2011 Bowl of Hygeia Award.
