The American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting will be held in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center on March 25-28. This is a tremendous opportunity to attend a national meeting in our own ‘backyard.’ Join pharmacists and student pharmacists from across the nation for a weekend of networking, socializing, policy discussion, awards and learning opportunities.
The event starts off with the opening reception on Friday evening, March 25th and is a packed weekend of student pharmacist focused sessions and policy forums, leading up to the Awards Ceremony Monday evening March 28th, followed by the closing reception at the Experience Music Project. At the closing reception, we’ll have the EMP to ourselves to explore the hands-on exhibits about music – so bring out your inner rock star – or grunge artist. More information about the meeting is available at www.aphameeting.org . Registration is now open, and is $190 for student members if you register by March 1st.
P1 and P2 students
Take this opportunity to meet fellow student pharmacists from around the country, learn about the patient care projects that APhA-ASP offers and come back with great ideas to incorporate into OSSP, and see the policy process in action – make your voice heard! Be sure to check out the Expo as well – there are often really great (free) things to see and bring home. This is a wonderful opportunity for networking, fun and learning!
P3 and P4 students
Join the P1s and P2s at all the sessions, but you may also be interested in more networking with pharmacists, checking out the community residency showcase, and sitting in on the continuing education sessions. P4s, there is also a (separate fee) Naplex review class you may be interested in.
Faculty
This meeting is not just for students! Come network with pharmacists from across the nation, check out the current research at the poster session, and see the newest equipment at the expo. There are continuing education seminars about a wide range of topics for you to check out.
Reimbursement
OSSP members are eligible for some reimbursement of costs (amount to be determined) but in order to qualify, you MUST email Abby Floeter or Pamela Levine by February 25th.
Housing
Information about housing is available at the meeting website, www.aphameeting.org , and group rates are available. You can also find hotel rooms through internet travel sites. If you have trouble finding a room (or roommates) Abby and I will be glad to assist you, but we will not be booking rooms for students this year.
Travel
Seattle is an easy drive from Portland, but parking is very expensive in the downtown area, so carpooling or alternate forms of transit are recommended. Amtrak service is available (www.amtrak.com ) and once in Seattle, there is bus and light rail service – more information is available at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/ .
Please do not hesitate to contact Pamela Levine or Abby Floeter with any questions you may have. This meeting promises to be a wonderful opportunity (and lots of fun!) so we hope as many Beavers as possible will attend – let’s bring a little orange and black to Seattle!!
