Agriculture reaches far past the dinner table and touches many different parts of our lives. From the clothes we wear, to the sports we love, to the population challenges we will have to overcome as a global community, there are many reasons to be thankful for our farmers. Below are just a few ways our farmers care for us and just a few reasons why you should #ThankAFarmer

Why Thank a Farmer?

Without farmers, we wouldn’t have America’s favorite sport: football. A single cowhide can be used to create 20 footballs. #ThankAFarmer

Similarly, without farmers we wouldn’t have baseball either. A single baseball is made of 450 feet of wool yarn. #ThankAFarmer

Do you like having a beer while watching the game? Oregon hop farmers produce about 17% of the entire U.S. hop supply. Because of farmers, we get to have locally produced beverages that hops provide. #ThankAFarmer

8.2% of the world’s population consists of farmers that feed 7 billion people. While they make up a small part of the global population, farmers supply us all with food we need to live happy, healthy lives. #ThankAFarmer

Farmers are on track to fight hunger as the global population skyrockets. The world population will jump from 7 billion to 9 billion by 2050. To meet this need, farmers will need to double food production, and they are on pace to meet this number. Farmers feed us now and will feed us into the future. #ThankAFarmer
