Has anyone ever finished a tutorial on a new language or technology, then when someone asks you to code something using that new tech you just learned you find yourself staring at a blinking cursor for an hour? Well, we’ve all been there. The good and bad thing about tutorials: good because you get to complete something and learn by doing, bad because once you are finished doing something on your own seems nearly impossible. The best thing to do in my opinion is to pick something small that you want to add to the project you completed with the tutorial and research how to do that using blogs and stack overflow, then continue adding to your project using your own research. I find that I learn a lot more when I go “off map” and try to code something on my own. This may seem like a scarier and harder road but you will get more in the long run. In my current project I am at the plateau stage, I’ve finished tutorials but now I need to actually code some blockchain stuff on my own. Wish me luck! It’s hard but worth it in the end.
