Time flies! This capstone course is my second to the last from the program. After graduation, I would like to change my current career and find a new path in CS field.
I’m a full-time elementary school teacher who teaches Chinese and math. I’ve been working in education field for more than five years. Four years ago, I moved to California from Atlanta with my husband. After that, I get to know many friends who is working in tech field. I started to wonder how their work looks like, how do they make changes with the technologies around us. With such huge interests, I found OSU CS program.
During full-time work with new track exploring, I’ve found a lot of similarities between education and CS. I stated three of them and willing to share with you. First, both of education and CS contribute to others. I believe everyone agree with me right? As teachers, we teach students knowledge, besides that, much more importantly in my eyes, is show them the right view to look at the things happened in daily life, and the whole world. I do believe a good teacher can definitely make a person different. Second, both of them dealing with people. You may feel confused after you read this. You might think teachers deal with students, parents, principle, etc. For a coder, they mostly face to and “chat” with a computer… What I mean is for a coder, the mainly goal is to make a better web, app, system, or any other systems to make “people” satisfied. Third, both of them focus on details. For a teacher, especially for little kids, or rebellious stage teenagers, a simple word or facial expression may make a difference. A good teacher must pay attention to each student’s personally and needs and apply suitable methods. As a coder, of course, a tiny decimal point make huge difference.
There are more similarities between an educator and an engineer. It’s lucky for me to working on the things I like. In the future, I might willing to know the third track– real estate. Hope I can find something in common among these three tracks. I do believe every trade are connected. Do you?
