Week 9 Blog Assignment

From the survey, I learned that I can get irritated quickly, often reacting in a negative way. When I feel stressed or frustrated, I often lash out at others. I somewhat knew this as I have been called out on it by my mother and friends (my short temper). I tend to think that I got this way due to my two older brothers pestering me and getting upset about it. One of my brothers I like to think was my bully growing up, always messing with me and wanting to wrestle/fight. With these two older brothers, the only way to get them to stop pestering me was with aggression, standing my ground, and trying to outdo both of them. This action of acting out with aggression has stuck around with me, and I know that I will act out when people do things that irritate me; even the small things.

I learned from this survey that these reactions to small things can be damaging to my health, and has the ability to lead to heart issues. From this, I know I need to begin working on how I react in these situations, for my personal health, due to the fact that my family tree has had issues with their hearts (one grandpa had a heart attack, one grandpa had to have heart surgery due to problem with his arteries).

As I progress in my career, there are many things I can do that will help manage my stress in critical situations. First, I can identify the stressors that tend to make me leash out, in order to understand the root causes of my lash outs. Also, I can establish work-life boundaries so that I can have time for relaxation outside of work. I can also reach out for support to have an outside view of how my personality can be affecting me negatively, and how to try and control my stress.
