Week 8

When I had been looking for a job to fill the summer between high school and college, a friend of mine recommended that I work at the golf course with them as it was a maintenance job that had no qualifications for applications. After working there for a while I had begun to understand that the mentality of a lot of workers was to take advantage of the fact that there was little supervision over most of the tasks that were done. This caused many workers to slack off and only pick up on work when they saw the manager that oversaw us driving up to them in the distance.

The only exceptions to this were the friend that recommended me to the job and I, and while we focused on getting the job done both efficiently as well as in a timely manner it caused some strain on the both of us. With no increase in pay, it led to the both of us not putting in one hundred percent of our effort. While we had been doing a majority of the work as two people in a ten-person team, we were receiving less than the other workers who regularly did nothing during working hours.

Eventually the both of us realized we needed to apply to a location that would both respect us and provide us with the proper pay we needed for the work we did, so we applied to a nearby golf cours that was much nicer. After making the switch, we found out that the previous location had multiple issues with new hires not taking the proper initiative to complete jobs after we left, causing a huge cost in hiring wages to useless workers that had to be fired promptly afterwards. This could have all been prevented if the company made the proper steps to reward pay to those that had the best work ethic and completion rate within the company.
