Week 4 – Blog Post: Critiquing a Recruitment Ad

It is interesting to think of what my brand is and how it comes across to others, as this is not something I have really put much time into thinking about. Although, I do think it is super important to have a professional and solid brand because first impressions have a significant impact on a person’s perception of you. Thinking about my own brand, I would say that I come across as motivated, energetic, and willing/eager to learn. When meeting potential employers, I tend to behave accordingly and act professionally to ensure that I am presenting my best self.

One of my biggest strengths is that I am a very friendly and outgoing person, and I am able to work with many different people from all sorts of backgrounds. Being able to work in teams and with people of all different cultures and backgrounds is important, especially in the accounting profession, where most work is done in team settings. Another strength would be my dedication and willingness to learn new things. I have always loved school and learning how to do new things and use new programs, which I think is very crucial when looking for future employees. I also have always been an optimistic person and have a positive attitude about everything. I would say some of my weaknesses would be that I tend to get overwhelmed or flustered in new situations. This is something I have and continue to work on, but I still sometimes struggle with adapting to new situations.

When thinking about how I would present myself in a creative ad I think I would either make a flyer or business card that I could hand out to people or virtually send it to them. I think that on this I would include a picture of me and a quote that said “young and enthusiastic accountant who loves numbers and people”. I also would probably include my email, phone number, LinkedIn, and any other social media accounts that would be relevant. I feel like often in accounting, there are stereotypes around the type of people who go into the profession, such as they are nerdy, antisocial, and boring. I think part of what sets me apart is that I am a very energetic and outgoing person who loves to interact and meet new people. I would probably keep this ad pretty simple with a little design and a quote with a picture of me also. I would keep the colors very simple and make it creative but also easy to read and understand.
