Debuggin’

Inevitably working a long term project means that struggles will arise. In those times, when stuck, it is important to spend a little time struggling on your own, and potentially digging an even bigger hole, as coming out the other side will leave you more experienced in the end. However, it is also key to not sink too much time into a particular path and not end up getting anywhere at all. When I’m stuck I like to take a break and sometimes spending time away from the keyboard will lend a new thought or idea to try. However, the best course of action is usually to seek help.

At the beginning of the project I thought Chat GPT was going to make things easy, but that’s not really the case with unity development. I didn’t find certain responses applicable or detailed enough to actually be useful. The unity learning curve is steep (to me), and I’ve never used C# before. That could be part of the reason why my chat gpt questions are less fruitful, because I don’t fully understand the systems I’m working with.

My current challenge is to me, a roadblock that might fully be out of my control. In the unity player, the game my partner and I are working on works fine, however, after placing the game on the AR detected plane (aka the floor), slight shifts in the positioning of objects completely breaks the movement of Pac-man. I’ve spend time struggling and also seeking help, however to no avail. Perhaps it’s time to reach out to chat GPT?
