Today is a good day because I’m one step closer to obtaining a software engineering job. I’m currently working full time at Walmart as a cap 2 associate but I have been applying to full time positions and internships for software engineering in my free time. I have also picked up a couple resources to help me study for interviews such as the book Cracking the Coding Interview and NeetCode on YouTube to better practice how to solve and analyze interview questions. To finish off my job hunt, I have been creating assets and features for my video game I’m coding in Pygame so that I can have a nice and practical project to show interviewers and talk about.
Regarding my future career, I have been awaiting a decision from Georgia Tech for graduate school. I applied to Georgia Tech’s Online Masters in Computer Science (OMSCS) earlier this year for Fall 2022 and I’m eagerly awaiting a decision in the next coming weeks. I’m interested in the field of Machine Learning and having a career in the field which is why I applied to Georgia Tech.
To wrap things up, my capstone project has been progressing well. I recently was placed into the Algorithmic Stock Market Trading Strategies group and also participated in the groups first meeting with our project sponsor. During the meeting we all introduced ourselves and then discussed some specifications and tools for the project. One such tool that grabbed my interest was Quantconnect; Quantconnect is an open-source, cloud-based back testing tool for equity markets. Quantconnect is important because it provides utility in developing algorithmic stock trading strategies by allowing you to see how your strategy would have worked out in the past. Quantconnect can be used to back test your strategies on various different markets such as FX, Crypto, CFD, Options or Futures Markets. Quantconnect also has the ability to test on live data with brokerages that support paper trading. Paper trading is a form of trading that simulates buying and selling equities so that the user can just practice without real money being involved.
There is so much to be excited about with my job hunt, future career, and capstone project that I’m both nervous and eager to see what the future has in store for me.
