  • Blog Post: Most Important Thing You’ve Learned

I think that the most important thing that I have learned from this course is the the importance of how interviewing is conducted and the most effective methods of how to complete these. For example, in Who, the author mentions the four interviews for spotting a players: The screening interview, The Who Interview, The focused…

  • Blog Post: IPIP Results & Reactions

Extraversion 80, Agreeableness 74, Conscientiousness 39, Neuroticism 14, and Openness to Experience 45 I agree with these results. I am often considered an extrovert on personality tests so that did not surprise me. I am also not surprised by the agreeableness, growing up in a large family we didn’t have a choice but to get…

  • Blog Post: Typical vs. Maximal Performance

If I were in the shoes of the business owner, I would want to do a little more background research. For Avery, I would want to know what motivates them to do good work. Considering that they have a high-performance ceiling, I would consider hiring this person because they are able to come through in…

  • Blog Post: Job Descriptions

It can be difficult for me to reflect on my most recent job because it is a very niche area. To clarify, I am a health-system pharmacy administration and leadership (HSPAL) resident. As you can imagine, the job description that comes with this position is pretty specific so there were not a lot surprises when…

  • Blog Post: Experiences with Discrimination

Looking at the discrimination from an ethnicity, culture, or belief system as the main reason, I would change my opinion on the company. Ethnicity, culture, or belief systems are systems that can be chosen by each person. In my personal opinion, I believe that every person has a right to choose and nobody has the…

Blog Post: Self-Reflection

1. What am I good at?

  • Positivity – This trait, in addition to inclusivity, is my top two from the strengths finder survey. There could be a few reasons that positivity continues to be my #1 strength, but I attribute a lot of it to the hardships I’ve endured growing up.
  • Inclusivity – I also attribute this trait to growing up in a very diverse environment. I was born and raised in Hawaii where the typical minority is the majority. I continue to promote inclusion of all.
  • Resilience – This is not a trait that was specifically called out on strengths finder, but I continue to encounter and overcome difficult situations in life.

2. What do I value?

  • Trust – I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. I highly value the trust that I have in others and if for some reason the trust is broken, I approach situations with skepticism.
  • Respect – This value is similar to trust where it comes automatically with anyone that I encounter. Sometimes I find that people will not respect me until I “prove myself” but I think that is a reflection on how they approach their life and not a reflection on my self-worth.
  • Hard-work – I value the hard-work of others because it inspires me to work just as hard. I do not mean this in an exhaustive way, but I appreciate when others put time and effort into their job.

3. How did I get here?

  • Dedication – I have been dedicated to the profession of pharmacy for a very long time. In addition to devoting undergraduate studies to Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Studies, I also earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy. Granted, this is required to be a pharmacist so it’s not a huge accomplishment (lol). However, I was dedicated enough to pursue a 2 year residency and complete an MBA so that has been an amazing experience.
  • Failure – Although I have been fortunate to have a lot of success in pharmacy, it has not come without it’s failures.
  • Grit – Many of my failures have taught me grit. I continue to work through mistakes and learn from them!

4. Where am I going?

  • Hospital Pharmacy Management. I am fortunate the my years of residency has allowed me to find a position that I am interested and is in need.

    Hey Tina,
Your value of hard work and trust is a great starting point on the pathway of where you want to and even specifically will be great values to hold going into hospital pharmacy management. Your breakdown of each category into 2-3 key traits is an outstanding way to look at each question. It offers a really good way to continue expanding your focus without needing to reshape who you are or how you do things fully. Amazing job!

Great post Tiana! I love the format that used in choosing a word and building off of that. I particularly liked your choice of the word Grit to describe yourself. I also loved the way you described yourself because that context isn’t just linked to you professionally but you as a whole. I took a different approach but I will be implementing your approach into my living notes document that I’ve created for this assignment!
