At this point in development I have completed the entirety of the first room. I am very happy with how it has turned out and the puzzle difficulty seems appropriate. In the coming weeks, over the next two sprints, I will be working on the remaining two rooms the the puzzles within.
One of the hardest parts of this project, I have found, is actually coming up with the puzzles themselves. I certainly think that it is harder to design a good puzzle than it is to solve one. I want to create unique puzzles of course but I also am very open to using inspiration from other famous puzzles and games with puzzles. For example, I have considered games such as The Legend of Zelda, Skyrim, and Portal as examples of good puzzle games to take inspiration from.
For the next two rooms though I want to create puzzles that allow me to work with specific game development challenges. For example, I would like to incorporate water into a puzzle somehow. I also am considering the possibility of making the third and final room of the game a giant maze! Because it is a video game and is not restricted by space as real life escape room businesses are, I think I have the opportunity to do something creative and unique to give this game something to make it stand out. I am still brainstorming what else I might do but the idea of creating a giant space for a giant puzzle that the player has to solve is certainly intriguing.
