Technologies Learned

The only major technology that I have learned in the process of developing my 3D Escape Room Game project has been Unreal Engine 5. However, because of how much there is to learn in Unreal Engine 5 in order to accomplish the task of creating a whole game, I have been very busy learning about how this tool works. I’d say over half of my time has been spent on learning and researching how to do what I want to do and the rest has been the actual development.

Specifically, it has been a bit of a learning curve to figure out exactly how the Blueprints system works. I am of course much more used to coding so having to figure out how to do all the same things but using nodes and connections through the visual scripting system that Unreal Engine 5 uses has been a curveball. It seems to me like the hard tasks are all made easy by visual scripting but all the tasks that would have been easy in code are more complicated.

Other than that though, making actor objects and giving them properties like physics and collision has been a pretty easy learning curve because of my previous experience with the Godot game engine. I actually really enjoy creating objects in Unreal Engine 5.
