The last job I had to apply for was the job that I currently work at with Orange Media Network. Since this was an “on-campus” job, I went through the schools website in order to find it. In relation to previous jobs I have applied for, this process was much simpler and smoother compared to others. The requirements included a resume, cover letter and a handful of essay questions. From the perspective of an applicant, it was very detail oriented while following step-by-step instructions.
My journey through the application process was a little different than others, since I actually applied for a completely different position than what I received. My initial application was for an assistant station manager, which I quickly learned I was not fully qualified for since I hadn’t worked long enough. They felt as though my skills and qualifications would fit much better as a contributor for the magazine, Beaver’s Digest. I had never pictured myself as a journalist or even someone who would work for a magazine for that matter. This shaped my impression of the initial job in a negative way at first, since the application process led me to believe that I would be a better fit for an assistant manager position. I ended up taking the position with Beaver’s Digest, and come to find out journalism is a new found passion of mine. According to the text, “who failures infect every aspect of our professional and personal lives.” If the application process would’ve led me to the wrong position, it would have been a mistake not only for the radio station, but for myself as well.
