Hello Everyone! We are about half-way done with the URSA program so I wanted to do another check in.
Networking:
I haven’t met with many people since I last updated, but I’m working on setting up some meetings. I’m mostly waiting to hear back from people I’ve reached out to and I’m hoping to get some meetings set up soon!
Current Work:
I have narrowed down my research question and the scope of my research quite a bit. My current research question is: How to use the visual media to teach STEM topics to 9-12 underserved and underrepresented youth in Oregon? And for my project I have decided that I will host a workshop and create a curriculum guide to go along with it. I am going to wait until I have an outline of a curriculum guide and then ask someone at OSU’s College of Education to review it. I’m hoping they can provide useful insight into improvements for my project. I am also leaning towards less of an explicitly math topic as the focus of my workshop. I may choose a slightly broader topic as my workshop may have a smaller time frame than I had anticipated before. I am working with my old high school (Clackamas High School) to find a date for me to hold the workshop there and if it goes well I may hold another one.
Next Steps:
I am going to finalize my topic and idea by next week. I want to have an outline of my curriculum guide completed and have a contact at the College of Education that I could reachout to. These are going to be large goals, but I think I’ve laid enough groundwork that I feel confident in my ability to acheive these goals.
