Childhood Influence

Born in 1975 Adi Tatar enjoyed a privileged life as a Jewish citizen in Israel. Growing up she had access to many opportunities that her Arab counterpart would not have. One example would be access to quality education, such as schools that not only taught subjects like math and science but also had a strong focus on Judaism. She also had access to joining the military and the benefits of doing so, even though she chose not to participate. Growing up, Tatarko idolized her Mother and Grandmother for being hard working, yet still being able to fulfill their maternal positions. Her grandmother was an accomplished fashion designer in the 40’s and 50’s who traveled around the world attending fashion shows and was heavily supported by her husband (Adi’s grandfather). While her mother sold real estate for most of her life. Both women led fulfilling lives that surrounded both career and family lives.  Tatarko also admires other internet CEO’s who have built their own success. However, before the creation and success of Houzz Tatarko worked at a small boutique investment firm. Only working 10 hours a week so she could also spend time with her two children.

Life After Graduation

Tatarko had full access to technology as well growing up-whether it was through school or everyday activities. After graduating from the  Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1996)  with her degree in international studies, Tatarko went out into the world with the intent of beautifying it.  She met her husband, Alan Cohen, not long after when she was traveling the Europe with some friends for a graduation trip. Soon they were married and moved to the U.S. They lived in New York for a while before deciding to move to Palo Alto California and buying a small farm house. Tatarko took up a position at a small boutique financing firm and Cohen began working for Google. What they didn’t know was that small house would be the inspiration for one of the most successful internet business of its kind even today. After they began renovations on their small home the idea for Houzz was created. That idea became a reality in 2009.

Successful Business Ethnics

But the story doesn’t end there. Houzz is still very successful and growing everywhere. But what really catches the attention of the the public is the way the corporation is run. Tatarko and her husband run the business in a very down to earth manner. In fact it took her and her husband a substantial amount of time to find an investor due to Tatarko’s determination to fill the role with a person who wasn’t just in it for the money. They found the perfect investor in Oren Zeev (2010). Houzz took off. Even to date Adi Tatarko runs the corporation with “razor-sharp strategic thinking with down-to-earth gestures that help rally other people to her way of doing things.”(Anders, 2014).
