Condoms have been around for centuries. It wasn’t until 1855 that condoms were legalized and being sold to the general public. Condoms have influenced the way society has viewed sex. Originally condoms were only used for protection against STD’s, not for the use of birth control. But after their legalization, condoms became a way for couples to have skip the traditional values of marriage. In the 1930’s during the Great Depression, the common ideals of getting married and having a family wasn’t feasible. The economic pressures of this time were felt deeply by everyone, which in turn lead to the increase of sexual activity especially because of the increase of the availability of condoms. Now a days condoms are readily available to anyone who wishes to purchase them, although mostly marketed to men, both genders are able to purchase them freely.
