2. Social Factors

Biological

Products embedded with Bluetooth technology are all used differently and is gender based when the product is. First Response has created a Bluetooth compatible pregnancy test that relays results and further information to a smartphone. While Bluetooth headphone beanies are marketed toward women in pastel colors. Wearable technology is connected via Bluetooth and some are solely used by women.  Bluetooth’s original design wasn’t intended for a specific gender and was meant for a device to wirelessly connect each other. (The Telegraph 2016)

Social

There are studies that note changes in the health of those who use Bluetooth technology. The concern around the technology is based on the extent of the exposure the consumer is exposed to. Products containing Bluetooth were once kept away from the body, but today you can find Bluetooth technology in products we use daily for extended periods. Wireless mouse and keyboards, wireless headphones, wearable technology, cell phones, and digital drawing pads are some of the few products that utilize Bluetooth for connectivity. (World Health Organization 2012)

Bluetooth technology hasn’t been dubbed as ‘disruptive’ rather it’s been praised for being useful. Bluetooth is able to be used in different types of devices and its uses are nearly endless. Connecting two devices for a purpose is the reason for its versatility. (BBC 2013)

Cultural

Bluetooth has had a cultural difference through the devices it’s been used in. Wearable technology wouldn’t have been possible without Bluetooth’s existence. The same goes for wireless headphones, which have become extremely popular in the past years. Technologies in health and agriculture are beginning to take off and utilize Bluetooth’s technology to communicate with the user’s smartphone. Bluetooth is able to be utilized in devices at little cost. The membership application fee to Bluetooth SIG is free and support resources are provided to members. The gender varies with the function of the product Bluetooth is used in. A specific gender would need such as a pregnancy test would be used by females only. The class would also be changed if it’s a specific product that uses Bluetooth technology such as luxury headphones or exclusively new health monitoring devices. (Bluetooth SIG 2015)

Economic

The economics around Bluetooth technology does not primarily affect a certain gender. The companies that use Bluetooth vary greatly on who they market their products to. (Bluetooth SIG 2015)

Political

Political issues surrounding Bluetooth technology derive from the products they’re used in. Software issues and security downfalls have the ability to leak information. They’re discouraged from being used by certain applications or trusted with certain information because of they aren’t fail proof. (National Security Agency 2012)

Educational

Bluetooth is utilized in education through iBeacon by JNXYZ Education. The iBeacon is used to enhance the educational experience in an interactive way. iBeacon utilizes Bluetooth technology to interact with computers, or mobile devices. The measure of distance and/or other information is signaled from iBeacon via Bluetooth to the device to encourage students to learn or help new students find their way around the school. (JNXYZ Education 2014) Wireless headphones have also become a hit in the classroom. Tangled headphones with damaged wires took up a teacher’s time to untangle and/or repair. Because of this a transition to wireless headphones are now able to be used. These headphones utilize Bluetooth technology to connect to the audio source. Bluetooth has allowed multiple headphones to connect to one audio source which gives the class and the teacher more freedom. (Education World 2012)
