Hi everyone, I just finished a six-month internship at a company called Consolidated Metco. This company manufactures semi-truck and other transportation parts. My team collects data from the manufacturing processes to make data-driven decisions that make it more efficient. I learned a lot during this internship, and I found it to be quite enjoyable. They have expressed interest in hiring me when I graduate, and I think continuing to work with them would be a great opportunity.
Technical skills
SQL and relational databases
The team I was on was data focused, so one of my goals was to expand my SQL and relational database knowledge. I can firmly say that I was successful id doing that. I barely knew any SQL before starting this internship, and now I feel comfortable with it. Data is such an important part of the world today, so knowing about how to interact with it is important.
Algorithm development
This was not something I expected to do when I began the internship, but I am glad I was able to work on it. It ended up being one of the more challenging computer science topics I have ever worked on. I found that real life data is unpredictable, so learning how to manage that was necessary. I plan on furthering my knowledge in this subject by learning more about design patterns and other best practices.
Web development
The front-end web development I did was probably the most fun project I worked on. This was the first time I used Angular for a development framework, and I plan to use it more in the future. Although the learning curve was more steep than
other similar tools, I found it to be easier to use once I understood it.
