Hi everyone, today I will be talking about my experience with the MECOP program. Overall, I would say my experience has been very positive. I have completed one internship, and I am currently participating in the second one. I have learned so much because of my internships, and I could not imaging what it would be like to miss out on that. I would definitely encourage others to participate in the MECOP program!
1st Internship: Cambia Health Solutions
My first internship was at a healthcare company. The interesting thing about this experience was that it was entirely remote. There was a lot of uncertainty about the internship because of Covid, so I am really glad that it happened at all. The internship was made possible because the gear that I needed, like a work laptop and a monitor, was sent to me in mail. The main project I worked on during this internship was an API that exposed 13 endpoints. It was built with NodeJS and express, and I learned a lot while doing it. In the end, I was happy that I got to experience what work from home was like. One of the reasons I chose computer science was because of the flexibility it offers, so I am glad to have had this experience.
2nd Internship: Consolidated Metco
I am four months into this internship, so I still have two more to go. This internship has challenged me in some great ways. The biggest project I have worked on so far involved developing an algorithm that fixes inconsistencies in their data. This is by far the most complicated coding project I have ever completed. There can be SOOOO many edge cases in real data. Other than that, I have worked with databases and written a lot of SQL. I feel like my SQL skills were lacking, so this has been a great opportunity for me. I am happy that this internship was in person, and I really enjoy my coworkers.
