Hello everyone!
My name is Siarhei, and I am excited and a bit nervous to begin my blogging journey, where I will document and reflect on my experiences completing my Capstone project. However, before we dive into the project details and it technical aspects, I would like to take a moment and introduce myself!
About Me
I am a first-generation immigrant who moved to the United States when I was 19. Shortly after moving to the United States, I enlisted in the United States Army and served for five years as a Behavioral Health technician. During my time in service, I had an opportunity to meet great people and acquired many skills that still help me in everyday life.
While serving in the military, I also met my wife, who is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at Quinnipiac University. When we lived in Oklahoma, we adopted three dogs – Zoey, Banjo, and Duke. They are our best friends, and there are not enough words to express our love for them.
Just a few months ago, we moved to New Haven, Connecticut. In our free time, we enjoy exploring New England, spending time in nature, and exploring hiking trails in the area. Recently we got into collecting and playing board games of all genres. It is a very bonding and fun way to spend time with your friends and family!
Me and computers
I developed a passion for technology and computers in my early childhood. During my senior year of high school, I already knew that it was something I want to pursue as my career. In 2012, I got accepted into the Colledge of Business and Law in Minsk, Belarus, to study information technology. The first programming language I ever used was Pascal (though I don’t remember anything about it now). While in college, I learned numerous tools and technologies that were standard in the computer science industry around that time. In my senior year, I was introduced to C#, and it has been my favorite programming language since. I like what C# has to offer, and since 2012 it got significantly improved and expanded. Shortly after I graduated from college, my family decided to move to the United States. Unfortunately, the degree I received in Belarus is not recognized in the United States. However, my dream to work with technologies was still there. After separating from the military, I finally had an opportunity to pursue my dream by starting working towards degree in Computer Science. For the past two years I have been a full time student pursuing my degree at Oregon State University.
