Q. What are the main global opportunities in 4-H?

A.There are various travel opportunities for youth age 13-18 years to spend time abroad through our Outbound Program. Also many opportunities to experience an International Exchange through hosting for 4 weeks in the summer or a full academic year through the AYP program.

Q. What is one highlight of participating in global 4-H events?

A. Learning to appreciate how much we have in common with other people around the globe. We really are not that different though our cultures may be different.

Q. What is one challenge you encounter with global 4-H events?

A. The Pandemic is obviously the most challenging, but in a regular year it is the struggle to have more people interested in the program and to take advantage of the many opportunities we offer. For those who get involved they are very appreciative. It is a program that sells itself once you take a step “inside” and experience how wonderful it is.

Q. How did you start your global 4-H path?

A. I was asked to take on the responsibilities of the International Exchange Programs for Outbound, AYP and Inbound non-Japanese exchange programs. I had very little experience at the tie but I too realized (once involved) what a rich and rewarding program we have to offer.

Q. Are there any tips you have for global 4-H involvement? If so, where is more information that can be found about these tips?

A. Try it! You can begin by hosting a short exchange or being involved with the in bound students when they come. This is a way to get a perspective of what all we have to offer.

Q. Are there any upcoming lessons or workshops focused around global 4-H events?

A. If you are interested in more global 4-H workshops, please email me and we can see what we can set up!
