Q: What are some components of photography?
A: We will talk about the science of photography by making pinhole cameras and how they are similar and different from lens cameras! You can find instructions on how to make your own here: https://www.exploratorium.edu/science_explorer/pringles_pinhole.html
Q: What is one highlight of participating in photography?
A: Photography can play a role in just about every other 4-H project! Well-taken photos can make for better record books, enhance educational displays, and capture memories that you can take with you into the future.
Q: What is one challenge you encounter with photography?
A: There seems to always be more to learn! Each camera has its own quirks and you can quickly get lost in all of the many settings a camera can have. It’s best to learn slow, figure out what each setting means and does one at a time, the bring them together.
Q: How did you start your photography path?
A: Photography, for me, has always been closely linked with travel and social media. MY Grandfather would always fill up a disposable camera with photos when we’d visit or go on trips together, leaving us with some awesome family photo albums. Recently I’ve been working on some take-home photography projects (including this pringle can experiment!) that can help spark an interest in photography.
Q: Are there any tips you have for photography?
A: When you’re first starting out, just take a LOT of pictures! When you go through your pictures, try to notice which ones look better and what made them look better. Was it the angle? The focus? The amount or angle of lighting? When you start looking into more of the common techniques and vocabulary for photography, you may find that you’ve already been thinking about them without even knowing the terms!
Q: Are there any upcoming lessons or workshops focused around photography?
A: If you are interested in more basic photography 4-H workshops, please email me and I can share my materials!
