Current Stellarator Designs

These are two of the leading stellarator designs!

Wendelstein 7-X

Max-Planck Institute for Plasma Phsyics

Located in Greifswald, Germany

Plan first initiated in 1980

First plasma produced in December of 2015 ๐Ÿ˜€

Currently in another experimental phase

A time lapse of the buidling of the Wendelstein 7-X can be found HERE

HSX – Helically Symmetric eXperiment

University of Wisconsic – Madison

Located in Madison, Wisconsin

Worldโ€™s only modular coil stellarator optimized for quasi-helical symmetry.

Still being developed

Fun Fact: The current Miss America, Grace Stanke, is a Nuclear Engineer from UW-Madison, and actually works with the HSX!
