The results of the assessments were not particularly surprising to me, but they did confirm that I have many Type A personality traits. In previous classes I have also learned that I score highly on conscientiousness, which closely aligns with being Type A. The combination of being Type A and conscientious can increase the risk of long-term stress and burnout if not managed carefully.
To manage stress as I progress through my career, I will need to be intentional about setting boundaries and avoiding the tendency to over-prepare or take on too many responsibilities. Learning to delegate and trusting others to contribute will be critical. In my personal life, prioritizing physical activity, hobbies, quality sleep, and mindful caffeine consumption can help maintain balance and better manage stress. These are habits I am keenly aware need to be implemented based on both current and past personal experiences. Furthermore, there is significant literature, and well-respected organizations such as the Mayo Clinic support many of the strategies that align with what I have personally experienced (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2023).
Stress and mental health are major concerns for employers today. Organizations can support their employees by having managers lead by example and demonstrate healthy work boundaries, such as blocking time on their calendars and establishing norms around completing work during normal working hours rather than consistently exceeding them. Employers can also evaluate PTO policies to ensure they encourage employees to fully utilize their time off and respect their time away to allow them to recharge. Providing workplace flexibility is another important stress reduction strategy. Additionally, organizations can promote company-sponsored Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and other health and wellness programs to help employees manage stress and maintain their overall well-being (Heron, 2025).
Ultimately, understanding my tendencies towards being conscientious and Type A helps me recognize the importance of managing stress proactively. Combining personal strategies and organizational support systems can help create healthier workplaces and sustain long-term performance and help prevent burnout.
