Blog Post #2 CS 467

It’s already the end of January and there is only around 2 months left in the CS Post-Bacc program at OSU for me. I started this as a challenge to myself to push and learn new things while building a better foundation for myself

Currently I am working full time as an SQA Engineer at a large company in Cupertino. I hope to apply the knowledge I learned from this program to my career and move into a role that centers around QA Automation.

One of the biggest things I learned from this program overall was to deal with stress, or whenever I was stuck on a problem. I learned that the only way to productively move on is to do one of the following:

– take a break (take a walk and think about it in a different environment)

– shelf it for a bit, work on something else. Something you come across later on might give clues on how to solve a problem you previously had

– talk to others (if possible)

Often times I think as a solo person just staring at the screen we get stuck in the mindset to “brute force” solve the problems but what you need to realize is there are many solutions and your job isn’t to just get to one its to get to an “elegant” one.

Overall I really liked this program. It forced me to come out of my comfort zone. It forced me to face realities in this field and it has taught me how to be a better person because of it.
