MGMT 453 Week 5 Discussion Blog

According to Harvard Business School professor Francesca Gino, unconscious bias can have a significant “problematic” impact on our judgment, just as the first thing people think about a female employee is whether she is married and has children, and if she is single, the subsequent issues of having children and paid leave are issues that the company is hesitant to address. The corporation is unwilling to confront it. Because of this, as well as my status as an international student, many companies were hesitant to provide VISA assistance during the interview process, prompting me to reflect on some key factors that can affect the validity and reliability of an interview as I reflect on my experience attending interviews. To begin, in terms of prejudice and bias, I feel that greater training and awareness in the interview process are required to guarantee that all candidates are handled equitably. Employers can reduce possible prejudice by employing structured interview questions and eliminating subjective assessments. Employers may provide more information and support to help international students comprehend visa procedures and work permit concerns, reducing ambiguity and anxiety.

To increase interview efficiency, I advocate that businesses use technology solutions such as online interview platforms to cut interview costs and time. Employers should also examine and adjust the interview process on a regular basis to guarantee its practical efficacy. Employers can also form relationships with appropriate institutions and organizations to provide internships and training opportunities for foreign students, thereby increasing cross-cultural experience and capabilities.

To summarize, companies should strive to decrease prejudice and bias, give more information and tools to help international students, and encourage the development of diversity objectives in order to avoid unconscious bias.
