Blog Post #1

Thank you for taking the time to read my first post. Let me first introduce myself. I’m Adrian and I’m from Los Angeles California. I grew up in Southern California and have enjoyed exploring what the region has to offer. I like going to theme parks, beaches, national parks, good food places/ restaurants, and exploring. I’m currently working on my last term at Oregon State University for my BS in Computer Science. I started this second bachelors program in the 2021 Winter term. It has been a very enjoyable experience and a very interesting one. I never thought that I would work in the computer science field.

My computer science journey began when I was laid off during the 2020 pandemic. I was unsure what to do since it was my first ‘real’ career and one that I wanted to move up in. I have always wanted to do something with computers but because of my work schedule, I didn’t have enough time to fully absorb the kind of technical material cs requires. Which is the reason why I didn’t major in computer science or electrical engineering when working on my first degree. I researched computer science programs and found a few options. Most of them required me to relocate. When I discovered Oregon State offered an online BS in computer science, I knew this was the school I needed to attend.

My goal was to study as much about programming as I could, so I enrolled in an Intro to CS in C++ and a Calculus course at a community college. It prepared me well as I had zero programming experience. I knew the term coding, but was clueless of what it actually meant. Finally I was accepted for the Winter and felt like the real challenge was about to begin. The Oregon State program was challenging and at times felt I was going to flunk. I also wanted to finish the program in 2 years or less, so I always took 2-3 classes. I tried my best, kept a positive attitude, and it has paid off.

Now I’m here deciding what project will be my capstone project. I am interested in the cloud development for fire departments project. I also have interest in learning game development. I have zero experience with Unity and Unreal so this is a great opportunity to expand my skills. I’m looking forward to working in a team and creating something great. I’m excited to learn and finish this chapter of my life.
