Most Important Thing I’ve Learned

After looking back through what concepts and things I have learned in this class I have realized that there are so many beneficial ones. With that being said, the most important thing that I have learned in this class that will be the most important to me and my future career revolves around the implications for finding and landing my dream job. We learned about this topic during week nine of this course.

This topic is important to me because it gave me a lot of knowledge regarding implications as a job seeker. This topic is extremely relevant to me because I recently was hired for my first post-graduation job. Overall there are 9 implications that can help job seekers when looking to get into a career. I found implication 1 specifically to be very important because it is all about understanding the changing world that we live in. Although I have a job lined up already, it is highly unlikely that I will be at this job forever. This is why it is important to learn to take advantage of skill shortages and to stay on top of changes in technology. Being able to do this may either allow you to change careers for the better or to negotiate within your current position for something such as a higher salary. Along with this, I also found implication 3 to be very beneficial and important information to know. Implication 3 discusses how important reading the job description can be when seeking a new job. If done correctly, you can treat the job description like a cheat sheet when interviewing for that company because it is telling you exactly what they are looking for which can allow you to tailor your resume, application, and interview answers to fit exactly what they are looking for. The key to this however is to only do so as long as it is still accurate to the truth of what you have to offer. This will be very important knowledge to have when I am looking to further myself in my career or even a different career in the future.

  1. Hi Evan,

I think I may want to change my selection of most important topics/lessons learned after reading your blog :). I enjoyed reading why you selected the concepts from week # 9 on what you found most interesting. I agree with you on the importance of implication #1 for job seekers- understand the changing world we live in. Given the global wide disruptions to businesses and business practices over the last 2.5 years- supply chain disruptions, fossil based energy pricing, the job market (more open jobs than available workers), etc.- my takeaway is that change is probably the only constant thing you should count on.
