WEEK 5 MGMT BLOG


I am quite excited to talk about this topic, as I find interviews very interesting and I also think it shows a lot about how well a company is organized. I have had a few different interviews over the last few years from scholarship interviews to possible employment.

I have found that my scholarship interviews either by the school or an outside party have been very different. When having interviews throughout the school I have felt that the majority of the questions were straightforward and they wanted to know why I deserved to be awarded these scholarships. While outside parties have spent more time asking questions about me and what I aspire to be in my future career, and also they spend the time talking about their job and how they got there. At the end of the day, the school and these corporations have different selection methods which make their interviews unique. Although I have appreciated the few interviews I have had with outside resources for scholarships more since I felt the interviewer expressed their validity and how they got there and were more engaged about where/who I want to be in the future.

While interviewing for a job/internship, I found that I could get a good gauge of if I wanted to work there based off of the first interview. I have always appreciated companies that have a very structured interview while also expressing their background and what the company brings. With that being said I have been in interviews where they barely talk about themselves or the company and then question me for 30 minutes, I find this unproductive on my side since I do not feel like I got to make a connection with the company and I end up feeling like I was interrogated instead.

Lastly, I have had a few companies that have run tests/samples. I found these tests very deceptive but also interesting and the employer expressed how these tests were beneficial to their hiring process.
