MGMT 448 Job Application Experiences

The process of applying to a job from start to finish can already impact your view of how the job is going to be. Recently, I’ve been perusing through many different job listings on LinkedIn. Some are incredibly professional, with a sleek design on their website for applications while others are super barebones, almost google survey style.

The ones that are visually appealing and as clear as possible about what their company offers as compensation as well as the expectations of the job itself have given off the impression that this is a fantastic place to work. While that’s not necessarily a good way to measure, it’s simply the first impression. A company that takes time to present itself in a professional manor online is one that takes care of their image. The feeling is gives off is one that wouldn’t want a bad environment for its workers.

Others leave you feeling like you missed something. For example, Apple. Despite having a perfect presentation and an easy-to-use website, submitting everything online leaves you thinking, “Hmmm, was that enough? Was that it?”.

Finally, there are organizations that are strictly in person. One example, is working for Mt Hood Community College. I was a student that was “employed” in an organization there. To get the position, you just inquired in person. As this wasn’t technically a paid position, but a tuition waiver, it did differ a bit. Going in person was a fantastic experience because I got to meet the team and other people I would be working with. It made me feel even more committed to doing a good job, and stoked my excitement to be working with those fantastic people.

Overall, even the job application process for a company can heavily impact how people view it. It’s certainly a part that should never be neglected.
