Super bowl ads go for millions upon millions, just for a short time slot for a ridiculous amount of people to see. This provides exposure to your brand. Research and development is a long and arduous process that will give your company a baseline product to sell, or maybe even develop a niche that other companies will have a tough time imitating. But what about the foundation of your company? The people? Without people their is nothing.

Companies may spend much more time focusing on marketing or product design, because these are the most visible areas to invest with easily quantifiable results. Recruitment and selection of your employees will provide a much more unseen benefit. The first question to ask, is what are companies constantly competing over? The answer is people. With great talent, the other categories such as marketing and product development will fall in line.

The strength of not prioritizing the search for talent is immediate results. Pouring money into marketing will absolutely ensure the maximum visibility of your company. More exposure leads to higher chance people will purchase your product, especially if they get it stuck in there head. However, the future becomes unstable. That’s the main weakness, it’s not a long-term strategy. It’s more of a stop-gap measure. The same principle comes into play in many other aspects of life. The foundation is the most important. A great example is a building. Sloppy foundation? It becomes a safety hazard. Mathematics, you build from the ground up. Martial arts start with refined beginnings into more advanced knowledge. The foundation is the most unseen and fundamental part, and due to this it can become neglected.
