Blog Post #3

Working with the google cloud platform in a team has been one of the more challenging parts of the project for me through the capstone project. From my other coursework, I already had some experience working with web development which aided in the development portion. I also had some experience working with the google cloud platform from a course in a previous term, but this was as a single person working on a project. This became a challenge this term when working in a team. My teammates had not used this platform either, so it was challenging to get everything set up so that all of us could use it. At the alpha release, we had some issues that did not allow us to host our site directly from the google cloud platform, so we had to use another group member’s personal site they had used. This was a working solution, but since the database was on google cloud datastore, it made more sense to have everything in one place. After this, I was tasked with figuring out our issues with the google cloud deployment. The first thing that was challenging was getting deployment to work at all. After this, I had to figure out how to host both the front end and back end in the same project. It was possible to just have it as two separate projects, but for future use, it would be ideal to have it all in a single project. After spending countless hours debugging, I was able to resolve issues by reading documentation and consulting others who had faced the same issues online. The biggest thing I learned and plan to take on to other projects is to have good error handling and providing informative messages can save hours when debugging.
