In the leadership style from the quiz from week 2, my leadership style was that of a Front-line leader. I believe that this is a great style of leadership for me. Although I haven’t always been an empathetic and present leader. I’ve also always been very aware of myself and those I work with and love. I’ve also always enjoyed being a good storyteller. I believe that sometimes in order to get through to people you sometimes just have to change the narrative. Sometimes people can’t/don’t listen until they hear the right words, that can finally ring true. That is why leadership also involves putting on new hats and communicating in different ways in order to help those you are working with and leading.

I also believe that I have a coaching style leadership, as well. I really want to improve my coaching style of leadership, as I still tell more than show and teach others how to do. I think that coaching sometimes feels like it takes more time, because it does in the short term, but once you factor in the long term money/time that can be saved, coaching is a great style in many circumstances. I think that all too often, instead of coaching, leaders think they can do the job better, chastise the employee, or send them to training. I also feel that I do a great job of cheering other staff and family on, which is an important component of this style. But, I would like to improve my coaching skills, because coaching encourages staff and gives them both more choices, abilities, and upward mobility. Time invested in others by helping coach them and teaching them, is why I’d like to become a more well rounded leader that adapts even more styles of leadership in addition to coaching and front-line leadership.
