Why did you choose your project, and has it met your expectations thus far?

I chose the project “Create and Play Board Games” because I really enjoy board games and was looking forward to creating a game of my own, with a team of course, for the first time. I spent a lot of time thinking about the games that I liked as a reference and how many cool features we would add to customize the game and make it awesome.

As far as meeting expectations, it really hasn’t up to this point. And to be clear, this has nothing to do with the task I’ve chosen, but more so to do with the amount of learning and implementation needed to get the core elements of the game going. I know that as time passes we will continue to add features to make our game better, beyond Alpha, but up to now I feel like it has been a struggle to just get a working game in general.

Additionally, the save/load system and the networking component for this game has been a great challenge for me. I do enjoy the aspect of learning something new, but I think my original ideal was that by this point I would have a polished gem of a game with all the features I imagined, and we would be progressing to a truly unique experience in the final semester.

I think this process has taught me that in reality, I shouldn’t shoot for the moon right out of the gate. It has been humbling, frustrating, challenging, and humbling once again. I’m glad to be stretching my knowledge, and pleased that I will be adding this experience under my belt. Very humbling.
