About me

Hello! My name is Kelly Kiel, and I am from Kent, Washington. I am a first year student here at Oregon State University. My major is mechanical engineering, and I would like to work as an engineer as my career path. I am also very interested in music, and would like to have a music career as well in some sense, but I believe that being an engineer will likely cultivate much more income

I decided to apply for the URSA engage program after a peer of mine told me about the program. As a student, I realize how finite my time is, and how valuable every bit of it really is. Despite this, I wanted to have at least some source of income during my academic terms. I considered multiple part-time jobs, but I figured that engaging in research would be much more educational and fulfilling in the long run than working a part-time job in Corvallis. I also figured that since my major has nothing to do with my musical passion, I could find a research opportunity that would facilitate my desire to work on music-related things.

Fortunately, I have been accepted by OSU staff member Victor Villegas to work with him for my URSA engage research. This research happens to be music-related, and I am excited for what the following weeks will bring me in my research.

I hope that through this experience, I will gain valuable information that I can apply to my work later both professionally and just for fun. I would like to see what horizons I can expand on in the music world like sound design, software, hardware, marketing, education, etc. I would like to also help contribute to the education of youth by working with Victor Villegas on STEAM education.
