Blog #3

Welcome to blog #3! In this one, I’ll briefly talk about how our team has progressed so far in our group project, what our initial plans are for our app.

Our team has decided to go with using Flutter/Dart to build our mobile app. None of us have ever really used Flutter or Dart before so it will be really exciting to learn new technologies and broaden our skill set in software development. We all have minimal experience in mobile development as well, but through the OSU program have gained experience in other fields such as web development for example.

Our mobile app will start out fairly simple, making sure that we tackle all of the major features outlined in the project details. But there are also a few stretch goals that our team looks forward to implementing if we have the time towards the end of the quarter. I’m not quite sure how fast we’ll be moving depending on how quickly we can pick up using Flutter and Dart.

It would be really cool if we could also launch this mobile app to the Android and Apple app stores for real users to download and use for themselves. I think that would give us a major plus when applying for jobs and giving us something tangible to show, and talk about in any future interviews.

It was really interesting to also find out that our entire team is also taking the Mobile Development elective at OSU, hence the reason why we are all on board to use Flutter/Dart as our SDK to build our mobile app. It’ll be really interesting to see how far we can get with minimal Flutter experience and pushing ourselves to learn and grow as developers. I hope that learning Flutter from our elective course will be helpful to us in building a real mobile app synchronously!
