When I am asked what my brand is, I would say someone who is has a bubbly personality and likes to care for others. I am a determined individual and am willing to put in the hard work. These qualities are something that I have tried improving about myself every day because they are qualities that employers are looking for in an individual. I have a weakness with technology and understanding how it works. In the past I have struggled with Microsoft apps such as Excel and Project. Despite these setbacks I have worked hard to understand how these applications work and have become attuned to technology as a whole. I would say what makes me different or unique is that I am always willing to try a different approach and understand what someone’s reasoning is for doing an action.
If I was to be in a novel or in a creative situation wanted ad I would write myself as someone who is artsy and loves to see the beauty in everything. I will sometimes just sit outside with my sketchbook and think of inventions and the life of the outside world. I find that there is a quiet angelical beauty to a quiet space. I would mention that I am a dedicated person who is a go-getter. I don’t like to wait around like a sitting duck on the chance that something happens to me. I want to experience things head on and am willing to adapt to my environment. I sometimes have a hard time letting people in and will put up a wall, but once someone gets to know me and I let them in, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for that person. I am quick to protect those who can’t defend themselves and am always willing to teach others how to stand up for themselves. I have a bite that’s bigger than my bark but try to channel that energy into my work. I have always felt connected to animals and try to surround myself with the furry critters.
One reply on “Week Four-Critiquing a Recruitment Ad”
Hi Joanie,
It was a pleasure reading your post, I can tell that you have done a lot of soul-searching and that you have honestly listed both your weaknesses and strengths. Your empathetic and understanding personality would be a great addition to any position that involves relating to people. I also admire you for being so upfront about what you struggle with and how you’ve used technology to learn from it. That type of growth mindset is what many employers are searching for.
Your description of yourself in a wanted ad format was so compelling. The imagery of sitting and sketching brings out your imaginative ability. It is wonderful that you see how that sensitivity and ability are balanced by that go-getter spirit and protective attitude. That mix of soft and tough is a rare and compelling thing.
Your insight, particularly an appreciation for your boundaries and how you strive to overcome them, brings so much to your personal and professional identity. If this were going to be used as a recruitment advertisement, it would shine. Mainly due to its honesty, evocative language, and distinct sense of personal brand. The only thing that perhaps would have to change would be that these characteristics would have to be more obviously connected to a particular job or position. This is something that would perhaps bridge the creative and the utilitarian aspects of a recruitment application.
Thank you again for sharing. Your provided insight which were refreshing. What career do you envision yourself excelling at based on these characteristics? That would be a nice question for personal reflection.
