How to Best Utilize your Employee’s Skills

If I was in the shoes of the business owner I would choose to hire Jamie. The reasoning behind this is, I would much rather have a consistent employee that I can count on. Even though Avery has the potential to be more high-performing than Jamie, Avery is not consistent. I value consistency and a steady work ethic more than someone who is lazy but has high potential. Having someone like Avery could bring down the work ethic in the company as a whole and it would be very frustrating to know their potential and not have them exert it daily.

Someone like Avery needs to be a job that challenges them and is constantly changing in order to keep them engaged. Something like financial analysis or a buyer for something that changes with the trends of society. With someone who has poor consistency, but the high potential it is important to put them in a job that forces them to use their skills in order to perform and adapt to the constant changes. Jamie would not thrive in this job setting because it is not ever consistent and Jamie wouldn’t be able to perform at a high level when there is constant change.

Jamie would be better suited for a job that has a lot of the same tasks every day. Not a job that has high stress and constant change. An example would be a desk job where you are completing the same sort of tasks every day on the same platforms such as excel. Jamie will be able to succeed in a comfortable environment that they understand well. Avery would not excel in this job environment because it would cause them to become lazy and unmotivated considering there was no change to adapt to forcing them to apply themselves.
